The winners for the British Academy Television Awards 2018 have been announced in a ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall.
The comedy-related winners are:
Charlie Cooper and Daisy May Cooper (pictured) picked up the scripted comedy award for their sitcom This Country. In their speech they thanked the crew, cast and BBC team who helped make the show happen.
Comedy Entertainment Programme
Star Tom Davis, who paid tribute to the cast and crew who worked on the show in his speech, said he wasn’t expecting to win. He added: “the biggest thanks is to the BBC, who a couple of years ago took a risk on a show that was just mental, and have run with it”.
Male Performance In A Comedy Programme
The actor said he was “deeply honoured” to win, adding it was impossible to talk about the show without discussing “the great Mackenzie Crook“. In an anecdote, he said that Crook phoned him before the ceremony to ask what he was doing tonight, explaining that he himself “was training his robin in the back garden”.
Female Performance In A Comedy Programme
The actor and writer thanked the cast and crew she worked with to make the sitcom, which is due to return for a third series, and revealed during her speech that she had just got engaged.
Norton wasn’t in attendance as he was still travelling back from the Eurovision Song Contest, so didn’t make a speech.
Short Form Programme
This new category also featured Pls Like, Britain’s Forgotten and Eating With My Ex in the nominees list.
The results were decided by 250 jurors.
The comedy writing category was previously announced in the BAFTA Craft Awards, which was won by Inside No. 9.
Other winners in the TV awards included Peaky Blinders, Britain’s Got Talent and Love Island. Full list of results
