The cult TV adventure gameshow is due to return to screens for a full series this June, following on from the success of the one-off Stand Up For Cancer special that was hosted by Stephen Merchant.
The main picture (below) shows Ayoade taking centre stage in front of the all-new Crystal Dome.
As was the case in the original show which ran from 1990 to 1995 with hosts Richard O’Brien and Ed Tudor-Pole, the new series will see teams of five contestants navigating the Aztec, Medieval, Industrial and Future zones of the maze. They will face a range of skill, mystery, physical and mental challenges to win crystals that equate to time in the final test – the legendary Crystal Dome.
The series is filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol, where a purpose built maze spanning over 30,000 square feet has been created by the original Crystal Maze designer, James Dillon. A batch of celebrity specials in aid of Stand Up To Cancer are also being filmed.
The Crystal Maze arrives on Channel 4 in June.
