Joe Lycett is working on a new comedy pilot.
The format will see the host deliver “a hilarious dose of consumer justice on behalf of the people of Great Britain.”
British Comedy Guide understands the working title for the show is The Naughty Step, and that the format is being developed by Rumpus Media, the production company behind shows such as Joel & Nish Vs The World, Jon Richardson: How To Survive The End Of The World and the forthcoming retro computer game show Rob Beckett’s Playing For Time.
The Naughty Step is described as a show “that uses the power of pettiness to investigate a range of consumer gripes”. Lycett has become well known for his stand-up routines in which he explains his battles with officials. The video of him on 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown explaining how he battled a parking fine has been viewed over 2 million times.
Additionally, in 2016, Lycett published Parsnips, Buttered, a book collecting up “a centurion of complaint letters to unsuspecting celebrities, companies and anyone brave enough to clog up my phone.”
A not-for-broadcast run-through of The Naughty Step is due to be recorded on Thursday 22nd March at 6:30pm at RADA Studios in London (Tickets).
The producers say: “Joe Lycett will be joined by a special celebrity guest who will air their own consumer grievances and together they will put the worries of our audience into action”, adding “This non-transmittable run-through promises to be lots of fun and very, very funny!”
Joe Lycett can currently be heard on Radio 4 presenting Series 5 of panel show It’s Not What You Know. Later this year he’s also due to host Joe Lycett’s Obsessions, a new show for Radio 4 in which he “chats to famous guests and the general public about their obsessions and guilty pleasures.”
