ITV has ordered another series of Cold Feet.
The comedy drama is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary after a return to screens in September 2016, a move which saw it become one of the channel’s most successful drama launches of 2016.
The most recent series of the show, broadcast in a new Friday slot in September and October, achieved an impressive consolidated average of over 5 million viewers an episode.
Series 8 will consist of six new hour-long episodes. It will go into production next spring in Manchester, for broadcast later in 2018 on ITV.
The scripts will be written by creator Mike Bullen, and the show will continue to focus on James Nesbitt, Hermione Norris, Robert Bathurst, Fay Ripley and John Thomson as a group of ‘fifty something’ friends going about their lives in Manchester.
ITV commissioner Victoria Fea says: “The nation’s love affair with Cold Feet continues, and we’re thrilled to announce a new series for 2018. Mike Bullen‘s honest depiction of enduring friendship has a very special place in the audience’s affections.”
Kenton Allen, from producers Big Talk, adds: “It was a real privilege for Big Talk to be entrusted with the revival of Cold Feet, a show we were all huge fans and admirers of. So we are absolutely thrilled to be making a third series [Series 8] of this iconic show, following the amazing reaction to the last series. Mike has just delivered the first script of the new series and… all will be revealed in 2018.”
Mike Bullen comments: “I’m delighted that viewers still feel invested in the lives and loves of our imperfect heroes. And I’m excited that we’re being given the opportunity to tell the next chapter of their stories. We’ve got plenty of trials and tribulations in store for them as they navigate their way through middle age, and more than a few laughs and tears along the way.”
Series 7 of the show is due to be released on DVD in November.
